Gmail Canned Responses

22 October 2008 No Comment

Gmail labs has introduced a new feature called canned responses. This allows you to use pre-typed email messages to be used as reply to a mail. To use this facility you have to enable it from Gmail labs. This feature once enabled allows you to select a mail response that you want to use when replying. Then press send and the response is sent. This is a useful feature for people who have to respond with a similar reply to many people. That include people who use their Gmail account as their work email and so on.

Now if you think that is all, there is more . Gmail by default has a filtering system that allows you to specify what to do to a mail depending on specified condition, like keywords or a particular sender and so on. Once you have enabled the Canned response the filter will give you an option to provide auto reply. This is not just like a vacation response that is a default feature of Gmail, but its very powerful tool that lets you give a unique reply to a unique type of mail. This can be configured to give timely and almost human like responses if a little time is spent on it.
