The government is trying to convince the general public into using the coin , as it is more greener. The coin  last longer and can also be recycled. The process used at the end of a Dollar bills life is to simply burn it thus making it  non carbon neutral. The US mint is spending 12 million on a project to appeal to the public to use the presidential dollar coin.

The main reasons stated by them include environmental reasons and also that if more people started using them it could save tax money. Their campaign involves all the different medias. They are even using the buses and trains. The campaign has been started off in Washington and is soon to be expanded  to a nationwide campaign. The campaign will be monitored for success by looking at the increase in requirement for the coins.

The consumers are reluctant to use the coin due to many reasons. The coins are heavier than their bill counter parts. They are too similar to dimes and so create confusion among users. For the popularity of the dollar bill to expand further study needs to be carried out in how it can be made more user friendly and appealing.

A suggestion would be to have bigger denominations as coins with noticeable difference from currently existing coins. All studies have come to a conclusion that dollar bill will need to be stopped before a wide spread acceptance of the coin is ever possible.
