Google Android In Cars Soon
Google Android is a linux kernel based operating system and development environment that is both open source and free. The web gaint is now teaming up with Wind River Systems and Itnel to introduce Android into car infotainment systems. Today infotainment systems are more than vedio and music, they also have features ranging from GPS to IM. It is this phenomenon of merging technologies that google is trying to utilise to enter the Autosegment.
Now let us look at it from a differentperspective , one in which we analyse how it would help the Google. Our cars are with us almost any where we go, unless we are using the public transport system. This means that our cars know where we shop , it knows where our doctor is and a lot more. Google a company that owes a majority share of its revenue stands a lot to gain from this.
Now you would ask, wouldnt it be better to try people use Android on thier mobile phones? surely it would be, but the car infotainment is in its infancy and so there are fewer established competitors here. The touch interface provided by the Android is classy and so are many other features. Thus its more or less a question of how much one trust the company, come on they have your emails then why not trust them with your location.
