Gmail Canned Responses

Gmail labs has introduced a new feature called canned responses. This allows you to use pre-typed email messages to be used as reply to a mail. To use this facility you have to enable it from Gmail labs. This feature once enabled allows you to select a mail response that you want to use when replying. Then press send and the response is sent. This is a useful feature for people who have to respond with a similar reply to many people. That include people who use their Gmail account …

Why do we need idols?

“Idol worship is  form of yoga , connecting the individual and the cosmos”

A Little child wants to know about human beings, animals, letters, alphabets and buildings. We do not give the child the real humans, tigers and lions, or ask him to read and write or take real bricks and cement to construct a building. We instead give the child models of animals, the alphabet and wood locks to play with.

It is the same with idols and symbols… A beginning of any form of meditative practice will not understand …

Spirituality is to master your self

WINNERS and quitters in life tend to become spiritual for various reasons. The conqueror type thinks spirituality will provide some special powers to conquer the whole world .The Suicidal quitter type become spiritual to seek solace and security.
Both will fail spiritually because neither understands how to deal with the world.
They should know that the world remains the same for everyone. The purpose of living in this world I neither to conquer it nor to quit it .Conquering and quitting can never get you spiritually enlightened.
True spirituality is to master ones own …

Adieu Linux Kernel 2.6

Version 2.6 of the Linux kernel was released in late 2003 and since then the developers have stuck with the 2.6.x.y version numbering. It’s been five years with the stable Linux 2.6 kernel, but a proposal has been made on the Linux kernel mailing list to change this scheme.  Novel’s Greg Kroah-Hartman has proposed the numbering version be time-based instead of the blunt and non descriptive format currently followed. Instead of having say the Linux 2.6.28 kernel it could be called 2009.0.0 (or 2009.1.0). The next kernel update would then be called 2009.1.0 (or 2009.2.0). In response to Greg’s …

Part Time Vegetarian or a Flexitarian

A “flexitarian” or  “almost vegetarian.” is a person who eats lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and sticks to a vegetarian diet when ever possible, but  sometimes indulges in a barbecue or so.
Being a vegetarian of convenience isn’t particularly inspiring, but a growing number of experts and even some famous foodies are fans. Cutting back on meat, rather than abstaining completely, may be a practical compromise that benefits our bodies and our environment.
It gives you the health benefits of a vegetarian diet without having to follow the strict rules. It is …

Bio Beer Fights Cancer

Students from Houston’s Rice University have bio engineered a beer that has anticancer properties. This beer contains resveratrol, a chemical found in wine. This is  believed to be responsible for reduced cancer rates. This was seen in lab tests conducted recently.
The Bio-Beer project will compete in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition to be held next month. Each team in iGEM uses Bio-Bricks, which are DNA tool kits, to create new life forms that does things that are decided at the formation stage.
The Rice team has genetically engineered a yeast …

Permutations Vs Combinations

Every one of us should have a clear idea about what is permutation and what is combination. I insist on saying this only because i have seen many people using these two words interchangeably. Let us understand the difference between permutation and combination though an example.
Suppose you want to unlock a number lock and let the unlock code be 1234. OK, now u want to unlock your baggage and u know that the unlock code contains the numbers 1,2,3 and 4 and u r not sure about the exact number.Well,as you …

Carbon Neutral Mineral Water Bottles

One of the major contributors to pollution from our “dispose it” lifestyle is the mineral water bottles. Some companies do claim that a majority of their bottles are recycled or disposed of in a safe manner. They have no control over this, what they have control over is the source of the plastic or the type of plastic they utilise for manufacturing this bottle. Added to this we should realise that this is a multi billion dollar industry that is booming even at this time of financial crisis.
Thames Water the …
